**Pre-Christmas Party of VOO and the Department of Political Science**

The party will take place at the New Studenthouse, 3rd floor and start on Tuesday 1st December at 6 p.m.

Sitsit is the most prominent feature of Finnish academic tradition and student culture. Sitsit means a three course dinner with speeches and singing. Come and enjoy the finest event of the year with your fellow Political Science students!

VOO conquers the Baltic Sea again!

VOO's traditional Pre Christmas cruise to Stockholm takes place on 26-28 October.
 
The amount of places is limited to 44 participants so be quick! Registration starts today at 20 p.m., when a registration link will be posted here.
 
The price of the cruise is 30 euros. The ship leaves on Monday evening and arrives at Stockholm on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday you can explore Stockholm as much as the partying in the evening before allows. On Tuesday evening we head back to Helsinki, where we will arrive the next morning.

VOO and your tutors organize a party for all the international students of Political Science. The idea of the evening is mingling international and Finnish students, and for this purpose we have planned some surprise programme!
 
The party starts at Kuppala (address Unioninkatu 37) at 6 p.m. and the Finnish students will join us a little later.

                                     A Mission in Kaisaniemi
 
 
          Aftermatch and performance evaluation in Kuppala (Unioninkatu 37)
 
VOO's freshmen and new international students are divided into groups, each of which gets a fake nationality and identity. The group will disguise itself as well as possible in order to infiltrate into Finnish ministries, to uncover the most guarded goverment secrets. The groups will have to perform difficult and maybe even funny tasks on the way.
 
The group with the most extreme courage, top skills, credible appearance and, NOTE THIS: the most appropriate bribes, will be awarded with the glory of winning the freshman party.
 
Come and be part of the game by which generations of students before you have become members of the VOO community!

DAYTRIP TO LUUKKI CAMPING SITE ON SUNDAY 6th SEPTEMBER

VOO organizes a daytrip for the new freshmen and international students to Espoo to a camping site called Luukki. There we will have a chance to play games, do sports, have a bonfire and enjoy some nice snacks and drinks in the good company of new friends. The bravest ones can also swim in the lake!
 
We will meet in front of the Main Railway station's entrance facing Elielinaukio bus station and Sokos department store at 1.30 p.m. From there we will take the bus no. 345 to Luukki. We will return with a bus that leaves from Luukki at 7.18 p.m.
 
Bring with you warm and water / wind proof clothes, sportsgear if you wish(football etc.), snacks, drinks and a good spirit! If you have questions about this trip, please contact Pyry (tel. 050 525 5542).
 
If it is really rainy, the trip wil be cancelled. So, check your email and this website before you leave! If we should have such bad luck, we can hang out in Kuppala (address Unioninkatu 37). For those who do not yet know, it is a hang-out and party place you will certainly get familiar with! A possible afterparty will also take place there. Welcome!

Dear old and new international students,
 
good luck for the new academic year and welcome to the Political Science Student's study association VOO!
 
My wish is to see all of you in VOO's activities along the year. At VOO's events you have a chance to get to know the Finnish Political Science students and the local student life.
 
Just a reminder of a few important things:
 
- To receive the information about VOO's events, it is crucial that you join our English language mailing list, which is called voo-news. You can do it by sending an email with the text "subscribe voo-news" and a blank subject line to majordomo(at)helsinki.fi. The information will be updated also to this web page.
 
- The first event of the year is tomorrow Wednesday 2th September: We have a pizza evening at restaurant Il Siciliano (address Aleksanterinkatu 36 A) at 7 p.m. You can meet the rest of the group already at 6.30 in front of the White Church and go together to the restaurant. There's an afterparty as well!
 
- You can ask for help and information about anything from your tutors and me, we are here for you. Also, if you have ideas for what sort of events you would like our association to organize, please let me know and we will do our best to realize them.

Attention all of you friends of football and sports!
 
VOO and our neighbour associations Mana (Students of Social and Cultural Anthropology) and Stigma (Social Policy) play football together! Everyone can come and show their skills at the king of all sports.
 
The match will take place on Wednesday the 20th of May at 6 p.m. at Tehtaanpuisto Stadium (Sepänkatu 1).
 
No skills are required of the players, so this is a fun chance to play for those whose skills might be a bit rusty, just as well as for those who know they can kick our dear friends' asses on the pitch! You can also come just to watch and cheer.
 
The aftermatch takes place in Sport Pub Chelsea (Töölönlahdenkatu 1).

It is the time of the year, when spring makes us all curious about getting to know new people. What would be a better way to do that, than spending time with our dear neighbour association Polho (Students of Contemporary History)?
 
VOO and Polho meet up on Tuesday 12th May at 6 pm, in bar Musta Härkä (Mäkelänkatu 52). From there we will start a beer rally through Vallila, visiting bars along Mäkelänkatu.

VOO organizes an info evening about employment with SVAL (Political Science Alumni Union) on Tuesday 14th April in Kuppala. The presentations will be held in Finnish, but afterwards there will be free food and wine provided by SVAL. We'll also have Singstar and Guitar Hero.

VOO invites you for a daytrip to the skiing centre Himos on March 6th. Welcome aboard!
 
At Himos you have a chance to learn how to ski or snowboard, or just to enjoy a snowy winter's day and drink plenty of hot chocolate. In the evening, an afterski is ofcourse a must!
 
Himos is close to the cities of Jyväskylä and Jämsä, about 3 hours drive form Helsinki. Bus transportation leaves from Rautatientori at 8.30 a.m. and back to Helsinki at 6.00 p.m. The price is really a bargain: one day's skiing ticket and transportation 40 euros! The more participants there are, the cheaper the price.
